Raley L. Wiggins

Raley L. Wiggins has represented clients in a broad range of elder law, probate, estate planning, and general civil litigation matters.  He has represented individuals, corporations, hospitals, and long-term care providers, among others.  Raley has particular experience in the areas of Medicaid planning and eligibility, difficult discharges, and legal capacity issues.

 

A significant portion of Raley’s practice involves advising clients on overcoming barriers to Medicaid long-term care eligibility.  This includes advising and supporting clients and facilities through the application process, as well as pursuing Medicaid appeals through the fair hearing process and state court appeals..

 

Raley writes and speaks regularly on various elder law and related topics. He is an active member and past chair of the Elder Law Section of the Alabama State Bar, and is also a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA).

 

Raley has assisted hundreds of clients in preparing their estate plans, and has extensive experience drafting wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives and living wills.

 

Raley graduated from Birmingham-Southern College, where he received his bachelor’s degree with a major in music.  He received his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Alabama School of Law. While in law school, Raley served as an editor of the Alabama Law Review, and as an intern with the University of Alabama Elder Law Clinic.
